About Me

girl reading books

By day I am a special needs educator, working with autistic preschoolers in a structured teaching classroom. I absolutely love my job, which is why I still do it for the pitiful pay I recieve. I love nothing more than to watch the progress the children we serve achieve. The difference from day one to day five, ten and so on. I love working closely with families and helping them find harmony and calmness at home. It is such an internally rewarding job.

By night, and summer vacations, I write for children and I write everything from board books to young adult novels. Thanks to my Mother and her love of reading us Dr. Suess, I've been rhyming since I was old enough to use words and writing since I was old enough to hold a pencil. The earliest recorded poem on paper that I have is one I wrote for my Grandmother when I was nine. I still think it is awesome for a nine year old. Since then, the spiral notebooks have accumulated one after another, filled with poetry, songs, story ideas, outlines, short stories, long ones and anything else that came to my vivid imagination. I love making stories up, making stories from facts, weird trivia to share, researching and most of all rhyming and word play. Nothing makes me smile more than a great play on words. I think I would have been really good in advertising. This writing thing is a long, hard, and often lonely journey but I am packed and on the road. I have met some really wonderful, inspiring, and supportive folks along the way and someday I hope to let them know that in a book dedication. Until then, I will keep writing and rhyming, just to keep me sane.

I cannot express enough the therapeutic value of a creative outlet. No matter what form it is, writing, music, painting, drawing, scrapbooking, knitting, gardening, or rebuilding an engine in your car. As long as you do something that you enjoy and you build on with passion and hard work. Give yourself credit for what works well and learn from what does not, and you will grow. It will give you something constructive to do when you need it, because creating something soothes the soul and calms the worried mind.
